'Masquerade' by Hii Shiew Eng 24 April - 22 May 2010

(Exhibition Opening: 23 April 2010)

Shiew Eng’s canvases are vivid and arresting depicting the clear faces of children in lurid colours. ‘masquerade’ is a continuation of the artist’s exploration of our ways and seeing and identities. The conscious choice of images and their meditated distortion reflects the sub-conscious aspects of the gaze. Is the artist over-stating the case for seeing and the gaze? Can this be a ‘masquerade’- of faces, of artists and you, the viewers? Head down to Mulan and find out yourself!
