Images Breakdown II
By Kaz Orii
22 January - 7 February 2009 (Reception: 21 January 2009)
Kaz Orii was born in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. His paintings took root from Cubism 10 years ago when he first began his career as an Artist. Since then his creations have evolved to a maturity of soulful originality. His constant search in attaining "Wabi Sabi" in his art led him to gradually discard representation through the years whilst continuing to subversively encompass contemporary concerns in many layers. He taps inspirations from his own intrinsic realms; the experiences and knowledge of being Japanese in the cosmopolitan metropolis of Tokyo in juxtaposition with his vivid love for nature. Do join us in witnessing his recent break through, as he composed in harmony, "Images Breakdown II", a series of paintings that seem to take the likeness of urban images taken from satellite photographs rendered in a myriad of colours, inspired by the seasonal shades of the pride of Japan's very own nature reserves.
